RELAY QUICK FACTS

I was doing some normal Relay research and came across some "Quick Facts" that I thought I should share with you, so here goes ......

In 1985 Dr. Gordy Klatt ran around a track in Tacoma, Washington for a consecutive 24 hour period in order to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Relay For Life is now a world wide movement in which 19 countries outside of the US participate by holding events.

Almost 9,000 communities will host a Relay For Life event in 2009!

In 2008, more than 3.5 million people participated in a Relay For Life event and more than 500,000 cancer survivors walked in their communities opening survivor lap.

Over $3 billion has been raised for the American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer from 1985 up to now.

Relay For Life is the largest nonprofit fund raising event in the world.

As we celebrate Relay's 25th Anniversary I wanted to bring you a little back ground, just in case it's your first experience with Relay. Maybe I have been able to share something you didn't know about Relay or maybe it has served a reminder for you, either way I hope to share other tidbits with you along with some personal ideas, sights and sounds of Relay! I was one of the 3.5 million participants in Relay last year .....come join me and lets make 2009 the best yet!
